Standing committees

Many paths to make a difference.

Committees turn community concerns into organized action, programs and measurable progress. Hover over or tap a featured committee to learn more.

Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics

ACT-SO encourages academic and cultural excellence among high school students, particularly African American youth. The committee organizes and supports local ACT-SO participation, mentoring, enrichment, and annual competitions conducted under National NAACP guidelines. Through ACT-SO, young people are recognized for achievement in areas including STEM, humanities, business, performing arts, visual arts, and culinary arts.

Armed Services & Veterans Affairs

The Armed Services & Veterans Affairs Committee advocates for fair treatment and equal opportunity for active-duty military personnel, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and their families. The committee monitors conditions affecting these communities and works with governmental and community agencies concerning programs and services. It also serves as an information resource on matters affecting military members, veterans, dependents, and survivors.

Communications, Press & Publicity

The Communications, Press & Publicity Committee helps communicate the mission, programs, activities, and advocacy work of the Branch to members and the broader community. It supports media relations, public announcements, digital communications, social media, and publicity for Branch initiatives. The committee works to ensure that information representing the NAACP is accurate, timely, professional, and consistent with organizational policies.

Community Coordination

The Community Coordination Committee strengthens relationships between the NAACP and organizations throughout the community. It develops collaborative relationships with civic groups, nonprofits, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and other community partners whose work aligns with NAACP objectives. The committee helps build coalitions capable of addressing community concerns through coordinated action.
